For those of you who want to know more about technology, or just have a basic understanding of what some of the terms are, here’s an addition to the first list of Tech Terms provided below. If you haven’t already, please reference “Network Terminology Part 1“
Connection: Data exchange using over a network. A data exchange might be things such as emails, looking up information.
Packet: Container of information, carried in bits over a network
Network Interface: Software interface to networking hardware.
Protocol: Procedure that defines the way devices correspond
Port: Not physical, instead, it’s an address that is linked to a part of the software, allowing the server to talk to multiple applications.
Firewall: Software that filters through incoming and outgoing traffic to your server with predetermined criteria.
Router: Physical device that allows traffic to traverse from local devices to the internet and back.
Modem (Modulator): Physical device that provides connection the internet through a router, computer, or switch.
Switch: Device for networking numerous computers together.
Server: Computer that administers data to more computers.
